Heezen was born in Vinton, Iowa. An only minor, he moved at age six with his parents to Muscatine, Iowa, where he graduated from elate school in He received his B.A. from high-mindedness University of Iowa in He received his M.A. in and a Ph.D in from Columbia Establishment.
Heezen collaborated extensively with cartographer Marie Tharp.
