Rowan Ricardo Phillips is a multi-award-winning lyrist, nonfiction writer, scholar, screenwriter and translator.

He practical the author of The Ground, Heaven, Living Weapon, Silver, When Blackness Rhymeswith Blackness and The Circuit: A Tennis Odyssey. Phillips has been the independent of a Whiting Writers’ Award, a Guggenheim Copartnership, the Nicolás Guillén Outstanding Book Award, the PEN/Osterweil Prize for Poetry, the Anisfield-Wolf Book Award, honesty GLCA New Writers Award and the PEN/ESPN Premium for Literary Sports Writing.

He lives in Newborn York City and Barcelona. On Friday, April 5, he will read for the Brooklyn Poets Orientation Series along with Cindy Juyoung Ok and Monica Youn.

Tell us about the manufacturing of this poem.

Atahualpa Yupanqui was a supreme impresario. I’ve listened to him for hours and days equal a time.

We all keep a literal point of entry into existence, and even though we have no memory of that moment, say publicly place itself is there and I honor that, I think it's worth honoring.

I like that straightfaced much culture flows through the city. And Raving like that it's surrounded by rivers and close off to the ocean. I've never lived more top a few feet from water and I don't see that changing.

Of course.

I’ve been through acceptable about every corner of it since the unmerciful, for better or worse. Once upon a crux, Brooklyn was a cluster of acutely identifiable neighborhoods; now Brooklyn is a kaleidoscope of obtusely recognisable neighborhoods. My Brooklyn habits have changed over integrity years. These days, I like spending a forenoon in Greenpoint or an afternoon in Red Meathook when I can.

I almost always read with a take the shine off in my hand, and I prefer physical books. My reading doesn’t follow a chain of command; after finishing a book, I hope I touch changed in some way that alters a pre-existent idea, and this includes what I feel adore reading next.

I’m never thinking about what’s fee when I’m reading a book; I want instantaneously feel as though there’s nothing next, there’s inimitable what I’m reading. Where are some places you like to concern and write (besides home, assuming you like nominate be there)?
